Nuu-chah-nulth Playing Cards designed by Tla-o-qui-aht Artist Hjalmer Wenstob and his wife Annika This is a full deck of 52 cards, with animals and their Nuu-chah-nulth names included on each card. There’s also an extra card included with a few phrases to help play čiicči (go fish!) in Nuu-chah-nulth.
Hjalmer Wenstob, Timmy Masso and Annika Benoit-Jansson are Nuu-chah-nulth language learners. Timmy and Hjalmer are brothers from Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations. Annika is Hjalmer’s wife, and they live with their three children - Huumiis, Cinkwa, Tsaahtis - in Ty-Histanis, a Tla-o-qui- aht community on the far west coast of Vancouver Island.
The entire purchase of this product directly supports the artisan and the Tofino Arts Council.
